The Beatles

In 1967, at the height of Sgt. Pepper’s mania, The Beatles crossed paths with jazz legend Miles Davis in a New York recording studio—and an impromptu jam session nearly happened.

According to Davis’ autobiography, he was fascinated by The Beatles’ experimental sound and met them while they were mixing Magical Mystery Tour. John Lennon reportedly invited him to play trumpet on a track, but the session never materialized due to scheduling clashes.

Why It Matters:

  • Miles Davis later covered “Yesterday” on his 1965 album E.S.P.
  • Paul McCartney became a lifelong jazz fan, even collaborating with Diana Krall decades later.
  • A lost opportunity—imagine Davis’ trumpet on “Strawberry Fields Forever”!

This near-collaboration remains one of rock and jazz’s great “what if?” moments.
